And Egbogah Lives On

This afternoon, the Emmanuel Egbogah Foundation will host the 11^th edition of the Emmanuel Egbogah Legacy Lecture Series on Zoom. The theme of today’s event is Petroleum Value Chain Optimization Strategy for Sustainable Economic Development.

The events continue to keep alive a lecture series established by the late Dr. Emmanuel Egbogah, geologist and petroleum engineer respected across the world. The last ten versions of the series have been held at University of Port Harcourt, where Dr. Egbogah had huge interventions through endowments for the Emerald Energy Institute and several other initiatives. Dr. Egbogah passed on in June 2018.

The Keynote speaker for the event is Professor Peter R. Hartley, President of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE). He is George A. Peterkin Professor of Economics at Rice University as well as Baker Institute Rice Faculty Scholar of energy economics.

Hartley has more than 25 years experience working on energy economics issues, including electricity, natural gas, oil, coal, nuclear and renewable energy.

The event will be chaired by one of the most versatile oil industry experts and an accomplished geologist, Austin Avuru.

Avuru was Managing Director of Platform Petroleum and later co-founder of Seplat Energy, Nigeria’s largest independent E&P operator, which is listed on the Lagos and London Stock Exchanges. He retired in 2020 after eleven years at the helm as CEO and overseeing all the key achievements of the company.

As someone who played key roles in organising the lecture series for the first seven years, I can testify that Dr. E was very passionate about the lecture series, paying attention to every detail. For many years, the Geopolitics of Petroleum, a subject close to Dr E’s heart, remained the theme of the series. And he used his clout to bring world-class speakers from all over the world.

Yesterday, September 14, 2022, would have been Dr. Egbogah’s 80^th birthday. And as usual his friends and mentees are getting together to organise one event or the other to remember him.

At Ikechi Ibeji Associates Limited, we decided to launch our brand-new daily blog, Energy Nuggets Daily on September 14, to honour him. We published a short article on his lifetime yesterday. And we are setting up a Digital Memorial comprising a full-feature new documentary on him; a free book on him, photo galleries, and other downloadables.
